How to Edit a Wedding Invitation PSD in Photoshop
A wedding invitation PSD lets you produce a polished card quickly: the layout, ornaments and typography are ready, and you only change names, dates, venue and sometimes colours. Because invitations are read closely and printed or shared widely, small details matter. Here is a careful workflow.
Before you start
- Collect the exact text from the family: names spelled as they want them, parents' names, date, time, venue and RSVP details.
- Confirm the output: printed card (and its size) or digital invite for WhatsApp.
- Check the template size and resolution in Image > Image Size.
Open and inspect the layers
Open the PSD and press F7 for the Layers panel. Templates usually group text, ornaments, background and photo areas. Toggle the eye icons to see what each layer does. If Photoshop warns about missing fonts, note them; you will need to install them or choose replacements.
Edit the text
- Double-click the T thumbnail of a text layer to select its contents and type the new text.
- Keep the template's hierarchy: couple names largest, date and venue clear, other details smaller.
- For Tamil, Hindi, Telugu or Malayalam text, use a Unicode font that supports the script and check that characters join correctly. Enable the World-Ready layout option in Photoshop's Type preferences if complex scripts render incorrectly.
- Proofread every word, date and time against the family's text, then ask them to proofread too.
Add photos
If the invitation has a photo frame, place the photo above the frame layer and clip it with Alt+Ctrl+G. Scale with Ctrl+T, keeping faces natural. See clipping masks explained.
Change colours
Add a Hue/Saturation or Color Balance adjustment layer, clip it to the ornament or background layer and shift the colour to match the wedding theme. Keep text contrast high so details are readable; choosing a wedding colour theme has palette ideas.
Printing a physical invitation
- Confirm card size, bleed and resolution with your printer; 300 DPI is typical.
- Keep text well inside the trim edge.
- Ask whether they want RGB JPG, PDF or CMYK; see RGB vs CMYK for albums.
- Request a printed proof for large orders.
Digital invitations
For WhatsApp and social media, export a JPG via File > Export > Export As, typically around 1080 pixels wide for a portrait card, in sRGB. Check readability on a phone screen. Very small text that works in print may be unreadable on a phone.
Save versions
Save the edited PSD with the couple's name and date, and keep the original template untouched for future clients.

One last habit worth adopting: before sending the final file, read the invitation aloud slowly, including the date, day of the week and time. Checking that the weekday matches the date catches a surprising number of mistakes that silent proofreading misses.
