Marriage Album Photo Size Guide: Common Sizes Explained
When a client says 'normal album size', they could mean several different formats. Knowing the common marriage album sizes, and how many pixels each needs, helps you quote correctly, choose the right templates and avoid soft prints. This guide covers the sizes Indian studios use most often.
How album sizes are written
Album sizes are usually written as the open spread: height x full width. A 12x36 album is 12 inches tall and 36 inches wide when opened, so each closed page is 12x18. Some labs write the closed page size instead, so always confirm which one an order form means.
Common panoramic sizes
- 12x36 (closed 12x18): the most common wedding album size. 10800 x 3600 px at 300 DPI; 7200 x 2400 px at 200 DPI.
- 12x30 (closed 12x15): a slightly smaller, often cheaper panorama. 9000 x 3600 px at 300 DPI.
- 14x40 (closed 14x20): a premium large format. 12000 x 4200 px at 300 DPI.
- 12x24 (closed 12x12): square pages, popular for pre-wedding and modern albums. 7200 x 3600 px at 300 DPI.
Other sizes you will see
- 18x24: large-format sheets used for showpiece portraits and some premium albums. 7200 x 5400 px at 300 DPI.
- 12x18: a single page or a compact spread, also the cover size of a 12x36 album. 5400 x 3600 px at 300 DPI.
- 8x24 and 10x30: smaller panoramic sizes some labs offer for parent or mini albums.
The pixel formula
Pixels = inches x DPI. For any size the lab offers, multiply both sides by the resolution you plan to print at. Divide pixels by DPI to work backwards: a 7200 pixel wide file prints 24 inches wide at 300 DPI or 36 inches wide at 200 DPI. Each design page on PSD Album shows its pixels and DPI and calculates the print size for you.
Photo sizes inside the album
Photos inside an album do not have a fixed size; they fill frames of many sizes. What matters is that each photo has enough pixels for its frame. A frame 9 inches wide at 300 DPI needs a photo at least 2700 pixels wide. Most modern cameras easily exceed this, but heavily cropped images and phone screenshots often do not.
Loose prints and frames
Studios also print individual photos for frames and gifts. Common print sizes include 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, 8x12, 12x18 and 16x24 inches. Our photo print sizes guide lists pixel sizes for each.
Choosing the right size for a client
- Main wedding album: 12x36, or 14x40 as a premium option.
- Budget or parent albums: 12x30, 12x24 or smaller panoramic sizes.
- Pre-wedding albums: 12x24 square or 12x36.
- Birthday and baby albums: 12x30 or 12x36, depending on the number of photos.
Before designing, confirm the exact size, bleed and resolution on the lab's order form, then choose templates built at those proportions, such as the 12x36 wedding album PSDs or 12x30 album PSDs.
