Wedding Album Sizes in India: Spread Sizes, Book Sizes and Pixels
Indian studios describe albums by the size of the open spread, so a '12x36 album' is a book that measures 12 x 18 inches when closed and 12 x 36 inches when opened flat. Confusing spread size with book size is one of the most common causes of wrong files at the lab. This guide lists the popular sizes and the pixel dimensions you need.
How album sizes are written
An album size such as 12x36 gives the height first and the full open width second. Each sheet you design is one spread: the left page and right page together, with the fold in the middle. A 12x36 spread folds at 18 inches, giving two 12x18 pages. Some labs write the closed book size instead, so always confirm which one they mean.
Popular sizes and pixel dimensions at 300 DPI
Pixels are simply inches multiplied by DPI. At 300 DPI:
- 12x36 spread (12x18 book): 10800 x 3600 pixels. The most popular Karizma and wedding album size.
- 12x30 spread (12x15 book): 9000 x 3600 pixels. Slightly more compact and often more economical.
- 14x40 spread (14x20 book): 12000 x 4200 pixels. Used for premium, large-format albums.
- 12x24 spread (12x12 square book): 7200 x 3600 pixels. Popular for pre-wedding and small albums.
- 10x30 spread (10x15 book): 9000 x 3000 pixels. A lighter option for parent or reception albums.
- 12x18 sheet: 5400 x 3600 pixels. Common for single pages, birthday albums and studio prints.
- 18x24 sheet: 7200 x 5400 pixels. Used for portrait-format and poster-style sheets; confirm orientation with your lab.

Choosing a size
- Number of photos: larger spreads hold more photos without crowding. A 12x36 sheet comfortably fits one hero photo and several supporting frames.

- Handling: 14x40 albums are impressive but heavy; parents' albums are often smaller copies.
- Style: square 12x24 books suit modern, minimal layouts; wide 12x36 spreads suit panoramic and traditional designs.

Bleed and safe area
Labs trim a small amount from every edge and lose some area into the binding. Keep faces and text a safe distance from the edges and well away from the centre fold. The exact bleed differs between labs, so ask for their specification sheet and add guides in Photoshop before you design.
