Tamil Wedding Album Page Order: A Practical Sequence
Tamil weddings follow a sequence of ceremonies that families know well, so an album that follows the same order feels natural to them. This guide suggests a practical page order for a Tamil wedding album. Customs vary between families and communities, so treat it as a starting point and confirm the order with the couple.
Before the wedding day
- Opening spread: the couple's best portrait, names and the wedding date.
- Nichayathartham (engagement): exchange of thamboolam, the bride's entry, blessings and family groups.
- Pre-wedding shoot: if included, a short modern section.
- Pandha Kaal and preparations: ritual preparations at home.
- Mehendi or Nalangu: playful, colourful spreads.
The wedding day
- Bride's and groom's preparations: dressing, jewellery, flowers, family moments.
- Vratham and Kashi Yatra: where these are followed.
- Maalai Maatral: the exchange of garlands, often with playful lifting by relatives.
- Oonjal: the swing ceremony with pachai pidi rice balls.
- Kanyadaanam: the bride's father giving her hand.
- Muhurtham and Thirumangalyam (thali tying): the central moment, deserving its own large spread.
- Saptapadi: the seven steps.
- Blessings and Ammi Midhithal / Arundhati darshan: where followed.
After the ceremony
- Couple portraits.
- Family groups: both families, with planned group spreads.
- Reception: entry, stage photos with guests, cake cutting if any, celebrations.
- Details: kolam, decor, the thali, jewellery, invitation, the feast.
- Closing spread: a quiet portrait or the couple leaving.
How many sheets per section
Give the most sheets to the muhurtham and its rituals, then to family groups and the reception, because these are the pages families look at most. The Nichayathartham and preparations can be shorter. Write the plan as sheet numbers and get the couple's approval before designing. See how many pages should a wedding album have for planning help.
Design style
Maroon, gold, temple green and turmeric yellow suit traditional Tamil albums, with motifs such as kolam patterns, temple gopurams and brass lamps used as accents. Our Tamil wedding album PSD collection uses these styles at 12x36. Keep areas behind faces calm and use one template family per event.
Text in Tamil
Event titles in Tamil (for example முகூர்த்தம்) add a personal touch. Use a proper Unicode Tamil font, check that all characters render correctly in Photoshop, and ask a fluent person to proofread.
Final checks
Confirm spellings of names and family members, keep the thali tying away from the centre fold, export in sRGB and run the print-ready checklist before sending files to the lab.
Adapting the order
Not every family follows every ritual listed here, and the order can differ between communities and between families from different districts. Some weddings combine the engagement with the wedding day, some skip Kashi Yatra, and many add a separate reception day. Share the planned sequence with the couple as a simple list and adjust it before you start designing; it takes minutes and prevents rearranging finished spreads later. Elders in the family are usually the best people to confirm the sequence.
