How to Make a Wedding Album in Photoshop: A Complete Workflow

Designing a full wedding album is a project, not a single edit. A typical album has 30 to 40 spreads and hundreds of photos, so a clear workflow matters more than any single Photoshop trick. This guide covers the full process studios use, from photo selection to delivery.

1. Collect requirements

Before designing, confirm with the client and the lab: album size (12x36 is most common), number of sheets, paper type, cover style, and whether the lab needs files at 200 or 300 DPI. Ask the couple for must-include photos, names and spellings, and dates of each event.

2. Select and sort photos

Cull the photos to the best 8 to 12 per spread, and sort them into folders by event: preparation, ceremony, rituals, couple portraits, family, reception. Colour-correct each event as a batch in Lightroom or Camera Raw so skin tones match across pages. Export at full resolution in sRGB.

3. Make a page plan

Write a simple list: sheet 1 opening, sheets 2 to 5 bride's preparation, sheets 6 to 8 groom, and so on. Decide which spreads get a single hero photo and which are collages. This plan becomes your client approval document and keeps the album balanced.

4. Choose a template family

Pick templates from one style (royal, floral, minimal) so the album feels consistent. On PSD Album, use the category and tag chips to find layouts at your exact sheet size, and check the pixel size and DPI on the design page before downloading.

5. Design spread by spread

  • Open the template, add a centre-fold guide and safe-area guides.
  • Place photos with File > Place Embedded and clip them into frames with Alt+Ctrl+G.
  • Resize with Ctrl+T, keeping faces away from the fold.
  • Edit names and captions, keeping one font pair across the album.
  • Recolour ornaments with clipped adjustment layers to match the wedding colours.

Save each spread as a numbered PSD (01.psd, 02.psd …) in one folder.

6. Client review

Export small JPG previews of every spread and share them as a PDF or a private gallery. Collect all changes in one round where possible. Mark each change on the page plan and update the spreads.

7. Final export

Run through a print checklist: correct size, sRGB, no text in the bleed, no placeholder text, spellings confirmed. Export flattened JPGs at maximum quality, named in page order, and keep the layered PSDs backed up for reprints.

8. Delivery and archiving

Upload to the lab with the order number in the folder name. After delivery, archive the project folder (photos, PSDs, exports and page plan) to an external drive or cloud storage. Couples often order parent albums or reprints months later.

Time-saving habits

  • Build a personal library of favourite layouts and save them as templates.
  • Record Photoshop actions for placing and clipping photos.
  • Keep a standard checklist and page plan document for every client.

Templates handle the layout; your selection, story and attention to detail are what clients pay for.
